SteerLog

Support

SteerLog is built and supported by one person. Email support@steerlog.app with questions, bugs, or feature requests — I read every message and you'll usually hear back within a day or two.

Your data & backups

Where is my data stored?

On your device, synced privately through your own iCloud. There is no SteerLog account and no SteerLog server — your records go only to your own iCloud, and wherever you choose to export them. Insights, the forecast, and the receipt reader all run on the phone itself, not on a server.

How do I back up?

Three ways, all free:

New phone?

Install SteerLog and sign into the same iCloud — your garage comes back automatically. Or tap "Coming back? Restore your data" on the welcome screen to restore from a backup file.

Sync isn't working?

Check that both devices are signed into the same Apple Account and that iCloud Drive is on (Settings ▸ your name ▸ iCloud). Sync can take a minute after changes; opening the app foregrounds it. Still stuck? Email me — include what you see on each device.

Purchases

What does Pro include?

One car is free, with everything that keeps the record: full history, fuel and EV charging, reminders, widget, charts, iCloud sync, backup, and CSV/PDF export. SteerLog Pro is a one-time purchase — priced on the App Store, not a subscription — that adds every car you own, two-car comparison, per-car units and currency, Insights and forecast (including EV charging cost and efficiency), statutory and service presets for your country, photo receipts with the on-device receipt reader, and the glovebox with its dossier PDF.

Restore a purchase?

Settings ▸ Purchases ▸ Restore Purchases. The unlock is tied to your Apple Account, so it follows you to any new device at no charge. Refunds are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.

Reminders & widget

Reminders aren't firing?

Reminders are local notifications — check Settings ▸ Notifications ▸ SteerLog is allowed. Mileage-based reminders need an up-to-date odometer: logging any entry updates it.

The widget shows nothing?

The widget counts down to your next service reminder — add a reminder first (bell icon on Home), then add the widget from the home-screen widget gallery.

Presets & your country

What are statutory presets?

The dates your country requires — inspection, road tax, insurance, registration — pre-scheduled with their local names and intervals (TÜV, 車検, ITV, MOT, rego, and so on). Set where the car is registered on the car itself, then open Reminders ▸ Presets to add them. Service presets for your powertrain — petrol, diesel, hybrid, or electric — sit in the same place. Presets are part of Pro.

Which countries are covered?

Statutory presets cover 28 markets, and the app itself is available in 35 languages with local units and currency. Registered somewhere else? You still get the service presets and can add any date as a reminder of your own. If your market is missing, email me with the rules you follow — that is how the list grows.

A preset date looks wrong?

Presets are general guidance, not legal advice: rules vary by region, vehicle age, and model year, and they change. Edit any preset reminder to match your official notice, and always confirm deadlines with the authority that issues them. If a rule is out of date for your market, tell me and I will fix it.

Electric & hybrid

How do I log charging?

Choose the car's powertrain when you add it. An electric car gets a Charge entry instead of a fill-up: kWh, start and end percentage, cost, odometer. A hybrid gets both. Charging sessions are free to log, like every other entry; Pro Insights add charging cost and efficiency over time, and presets know an electric car has no oil to change.

Units & currency

Can I change units or currency?

Settings ▸ Distance, Volume, Fuel economy, and Currency symbol. Fuel economy can be L/100 km, km/L, mpg (US), or mpg (UK), and existing entries are converted on the fly — nothing is re-entered. SteerLog picks sensible defaults from your region on first launch. With Pro, each car keeps its own units and currency — handy for a car registered abroad or bought in another country.
