Move your LubeLogger data to SteerLog

Updated · SteerLog: free for one car, Pro is a one-time purchase (price shown in the App Store for your country)

If you run LubeLogger, you chose it for the right reason: your records on your own terms. SteerLog has the same idea, with no server to run. Your data stays on your phone, syncs through your own iCloud, and exports free forever. It also does what a phone does best. You get lock-screen reminders by date and mileage, a widget, and a fill-up logged in seconds at the pump.

Getting your data out of LubeLogger

  1. LubeLogger exports one CSV per record type. Export your fuel, service and odometer records from your own server.
  2. SteerLog needs only a date column. Odometer, cost, volume, price, notes and type are matched by name, using the table below.
  3. If a header doesn’t match (self-hosted versions vary), rename it in any spreadsheet. Then save it as CSV again. It takes ten seconds.

SteerLog does not replace LubeLogger for a whole fleet with attachments and custom fields. It is the same idea, built for iPhone, for the cars in your home. You can run both. SteerLog’s CSV export is free, so you can always take your data back out.

The self-hosted idea, built for iPhone: no account, no company server, no subscription. And your next oil change shows on your lock screen.

Importing into SteerLog

  1. Get your CSV onto your iPhone — AirDrop, iCloud Drive, Files, or email it to yourself.
  2. In SteerLog, open Settings › Export & Import › Import CSV. The file goes into the car you have selected. So pick the right car first.
  3. Choose the file. SteerLog tells you how many entries it added, how many duplicates it skipped, and how many rows it could not read.
  4. Check the History tab. Your entries are there, and your charts and fuel economy are worked out from the new fill-ups right away.

One CSV goes into one car. Free covers one car with every feature. More cars take a single one-time purchase. There is no subscription.

Column names SteerLog recognizes

Case, spaces, and punctuation don’t matter — Fuel-up Date, fuelup_date, and FuelUpDate all match. Only a date column is needed. All the rest are optional.

FieldAccepted column names
Date (required)date, fuelup_date, service_date, entry_date, day
Odometerodometer, odo, miles, mileage, km, kilometers, odometer_mi, odometer_km
Fuel volumefuel_volume, volume, gallons, litres, liters, fuel_qty, qty, quantity
Price per unitprice_per_unit, price_per_gallon, price_per_liter, unit_price, price
Total costcost, total_cost, total_price, total_spent, total, amount
Entry typetype, entry_type, category — values like fuel, service, expense
Title / placetitle, services, service, station, fuel_brand, location, description, name
Notesnotes, note, comments, comment
Full-tank flagfull_tank, filled_tank, full
Partial-fill flagpartial_fuelup, partial

No type column? A row with a fuel volume or unit price counts as a fuel-up. The rest become service or expense entries. If the file has no total cost, SteerLog works it out as volume × price. European decimals are safe: 9,6 litres comes in as 9.6, not 96. If you import the same file again, SteerLog skips the duplicates (same day, type, odometer and cost). So you can’t double your history by mistake.

Questions, answered

Where does SteerLog store my data?

On your iPhone, in the app’s own database. If you allow it, it syncs in private through your own iCloud. There is no SteerLog server and no account. Nobody but you can see, hold or lose your records. Backup files and CSV/PDF export are free, so you can check that claim any time.

Is the import free?

Yes, fully. Import, CSV/PDF export, iCloud sync, and backup files are free in SteerLog, forever. Free covers one car with every feature. A single one-time purchase unlocks as many cars as you like. There is no subscription.

My export uses commas for decimals — will it import correctly?

Yes. SteerLog’s import reads both decimal styles. 9,6 litres comes in as 9.6. It also reads thousands marks, like 1.234,5 or 1,234.5. This matters for exports made in Europe, Brazil and many other regions.

What happens if I import the same file twice?

Nothing bad. SteerLog skips duplicates. An entry counts as a duplicate when its day, type, odometer and cost all match one you already have. So running an import again, or importing exports that overlap, won’t double your history.

Can I get my data back out later?

Always. CSV export, a PDF vehicle dossier and a full backup file (photos included) are free forever. We chose not to charge for export. A log you can’t leave with isn’t yours.

Why the import is free

SteerLog starts from one idea: your car’s history belongs to you. It lives on your phone and your own iCloud. No account, no company server, no subscription. Import, export, backup files, and CSV/PDF are free forever, because a log you can’t move isn’t yours. See how SteerLog works.
